Structural concrete slab work | Coffraco inc.

The formwork process for a structural slab involves several crucial stages, from site preparation to form stripping, installation of supports, panels and reinforcement, and pouring and curing the concrete.

Each of these steps must be carried out with care to ensure the stability, safety and durability of the structural slab.

    Fast turnaround and superior quality

    Formwork Steps, Structural Concrete Slab

Formwork for a structural slab is a crucial construction process that ensures that the poured concrete will take the desired shape and achieve the necessary strength. Here are the main steps offered by coffraco:

    1. Site preparation

    • Cleaning and levelling the ground: Before installing the formwork, it is essential to clean and level the area where the slab will be poured.
    • Boundary marking: Define and mark the boundaries of the slab according to the construction plans.

    2. Installing supports and props

    • Setting up props: Install vertical supports (props) to support the formwork panels. These should be placed at regular intervals to ensure stability.
    • Height adjustment: Adjust the props to the height required for the slab, taking into account the thickness of the slab.

    3. Installing formwork panels

    • Installing formwork panels: Lay the horizontal panels that will form the base of the formwork for the slab. These panels can be made of wood, metal or composite.
    • Secure fastening: Securely fasten panels to supports and props to prevent movement during concrete pouring.

    4. Formwork reinforcement

    • Installing beams and cross-members: Place additional beams and cross-members to reinforce the formwork, especially for large-area or thick slabs.
    • Checking alignment: Check that the formwork is properly aligned and level to ensure a uniform slab.

    5. Reinforcement placement

    • Positioning reinforcing bars: Place steel reinforcing bars according to structural plans, ensuring even distribution for slab reinforcement.
    • Fixing reinforcement: Fasten bars with iron ties or hooks to hold them in place.

    6. Preparing openings and reservations

    • Preparing reservations: Prepare spaces for openings (holes for conduits, pipes, etc.) using boxes or tubes to create voids in the concrete.

    7. Pre-casting inspection

    • Structural check: Inspect all formwork, supports and reinforcement to ensure that everything is correctly installed and secured.
    • Cleanliness check: Clean any dirt or debris from the formwork to avoid imperfections in the concrete.

    8. Concrete pouring

    • Concrete preparation: Prepare concrete according to project specifications.
    • Pouring: Pour the concrete evenly into the formwork, taking care to avoid voids and air bubbles.
    • Levelling and vibration: Use vibration tools to eliminate air bubbles and level the concrete surface.

    9. Curing concrete

    • Curing process: Allow concrete to cure for the required time, usually several days, maintaining optimum temperature and humidity conditions.
    • Protection: Protect concrete from weathering and damage during the curing process.

    10. Stripping

    • Panel removal: Once the concrete has hardened sufficiently, carefully remove the formwork panels.
    • Removing props: Remove props and vertical supports, taking care not to damage the slab.
